Marie & Louis wishes to pay tribute to Queen Marie-Antoinette, the uncontested icon of elegance and modernity, through the representation of her most portrait « Marie-Antoinette with the Rose » painted in 1783 by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun.
This portrait of the monarch wasn’t her original work though, the artist had first painted the queen in a white muslin dress, showing her taste for simplicity. This intimate portrait, which was due to be shown at the Académie Royale, provoked a scandal and had to be replaced by a painting adopting the more traditional codes of representation of a queen of France.
